All about microplastics
It starts pretty big - something you can hold. A box, a bag, a bottle, a shirt. But then it starts breaking down. Smaller and smaller.
Eventually, it becomes less than 5mm long. A microplastic. This can be mistaken for food by birds, animals and aquatic life.
It breaks down even further to nanoplastics. These are found in drinking water, in our food, our lungs, and in our blood.
Microplastics washed off from synthetic clothes contribute up to 35% of the plastic particles polluting our oceans.
